Equine Facilitated Learning

An immersive horse experience guiding and supporting your health and wellness journey

Contract bree.anaka@gmail.com or 306-530-4733 to book your session

Equine Facilitated Learning (EFL) is a client-led modality supported by the wisdom and compassion of horses.  As highly sensitive and attuned beings, horses are able to connect with us on a deep level that feels both safe and expansive.  Horses can feel our emotions, our nervous system state, and our thoughts.  As non-judgmental beings, they allow us to process our needs in a safe way to allow for new insights, opportunities, and releases.

Who is EFL for?

Anyone, at any age and stage, seeking support and new ways of thinking and being in the world.

EFL can support physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual needs.

No prior horse experience necessary.

How Does it Work?

As herd animals, horses are able to feel the emotions, physical state, and mental state of their herd-mates.  Horses rely on this information to know the health of the overall herd and of individuals-- this helps them to determine if it is safe to rest and digest, if they need to run, if there is conflict within their group, if they need to be on alert, or if they can be at ease.  Feeling one another and supporting processing and regulation for each other is vital for survival and thriving.

This ability to feel and sense others is not limited to their fellow horses; they can feel our emotions, physical, state, and mental state too! Whether you express it aloud or simply stand in their presence, horses can feel a lot about who you are and where you are seeking support.  Because they rely on returning to a state of balance and health, they naturally attune to your needs and want to support you. As non-verbal beings, they cannot talk it through with you, so they hold space and show you through non-verbal body language how your particular need is impacting your life.  As they act out your need, this allows for your body and mind to process in a different way - it gets it out of your system and you watch the interactions like a movie.  This creates the opportunity to clear your need or problem and in turn, solutions have the ability to arise.  The horses then support and show you what these new solutions can look like.  I remain with you during the entire session to provide verbal processing support where needed, and to be a translator for the horses.

All sessions are held outside in a natural setting at my property just outside of Salmon Arm, BC.

How To Prepare for Your Session

Dress to be outside for up to 90 minutes.  Wear close toed shoes and bring a water bottle.  I recommend bringing a journal to write down some key insights from your session so you can reflect and continue to process in your own time. If you want to bring a small treat to thank the horses, they highly enjoy apple slices.
