Traditional Birth Keeping

What is a Birth Keeper?
A Birth Keeper supports and reminds women of the sacred, primal intelligence and divinity of their body on their pregnancy and post partum path.
A Birth Keeper does not dictate the path; rather, she is a safe witness and knowledgeable support for the woman as she chooses what she wants her pregnancy, birth, and postpartum plan to look like.
Birth Keepers hold a holistic approach to pregnancy and birth; drawing from knowledge and understanding of sacred birthing traditions and practices. In sharing this information, women are supported in making informed decisions about their pregnancy and birth.
Birth Keepers are not bound by a governing body and so can provide support across many birthing choices -- from free birth at home to the hospital setting and anywhere in between. Whatever path a woman chooses, the Birth Keeper walks alongside, providing a consistent safe space for the expecting mother to share her hopes, joys, fears, and questions without judgement.
It is important to note that Birth Keepers do not provide medical intervention or advice. They do ensure women, and their partners, know their rights and their ability to advocate for themselves in any pregnancy or birth-related situation.

At this time, I am not currently accepting new clients in my Birth Keeping practice. If you are seeking a Birth Keeper in the Shuswap/Okanagan Region, please reach out at bree.anaka@gmail.com and I can provide you with a list of trusted women you can connect with.
